Suicide Resources

Suicide is not chosen;
it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain.

While I feel that there many reasons that people die by suicide I do not feel that most people want to die. I feel that most have given up hope that things can change for the better and they are in so much emotional pain that they just want it to stop. I don't think people feel that they have or know about any other choices to help their pain go away and that is why they give up and commit suicide.
I would offer new choices to you all.

Please do not make what is a very final decision
and give up hope.
Emotional pain can be reduced or eliminated.

I made it out. So can you.

“CCHR: Big Pharma-Define ‘Better’” by EBChill.
This video is about some of the effects of giving psychiatric meds to children, including anti-depressants and more. Could we all be doing things differently such as proper nutrition, talking to our kids, supporting our kids or helping them have better life skills first, before considering medication. How about asking your child what they need first? What about ourselves, those of us who take antidepressants? We could do the same for ourselves that we would do for our children.

Please remember that I am not a doctor or any kind of medical or mental health professional. The information posted on this site is based upon my own personal experience and research. I do not give mental health or medical advice nor should any information on this site be taken as any kind of medical advice. This is only an attempt to make you aware of new developments, different options and other choices so that you can decide for yourself how you want to handle your recovery.

I recommend that you have emotional support and guidance available at all times if possible.
I also suggest consulting a qualified professional that can help guide you through the emotional releases, setting up a program and other issues.

There are so many qualified professionals out there who have done some great books, web sites and videos for anyone seeking help. I prefer to send you to their sites because I feel that you will be better served by these professionals rather than me trying to explain any of it when they do such a great job. I give you my experiences in my section of articles and in the book but the following articles, books, web sites and videos are done by others who are experts in their own right and areas of expertise. I would give them credit for their hard work and send you to information from qualified professionals so that you can better make fully informed decisions about your health.

Suicide resources

(from Awaken Joy@)

Even if a person didn't know where to start or felt overwhelmed, I think that just scrolling through the information in the resource guide might give a person an idea where to begin. Just having a place to start and knowing that there are some choices out there might help people to still have hope that they can get their lives and their joy back. Take a peek and go with whatever catches your interest or your eye.

I did a lot of this myself as far as learning about nutrition, detoxification, cleansing the body, massage, natural supplements and such. I did go to a counselor from time to time when I was really having a lot of difficulty but for the most part, I couldn't afford to go on a regular basis. I also read a lot of books by experts, visited their web sites and read extensively on my own. As far as learning new communication skills, about boundaries, anger and trauma, I learned those skills and information in the outpatient program. That is why I advise consulting a qualified counselor for part of your program or helping you design your program. You can teach yourself a lot from the videos and websites, but I think getting some guidance for your particular situation might not be a bad idea. I know it can be expensive but a little help goes a long way, at least to get started. If you cannot afford a counselor, maybe talk to a pastor, a youth center advisor, a social worker, a school counselor, a community center, a half-way house or any kind of social program director to start.

There are self-help books and a lot of good workbooks that you can do on your own and at your own pace. There are online courses but some charge a fee. Check around to see what you can find. Maybe you could get a class started in your neighborhood or your church once a week so that a group could learn at the same time. Maybe churches or other organizations such as group homes, women’s shelters, sober-living homes and veteran’s associations could start their own groups led by a counselor once a week or so. Maybe everyone could chip in to pay the counselor to help them through trauma. These are just ideas.

I did much of my own work by necessity because I could not afford to go to professionals every day or every week to help me with the emotional releases and the feeling part of it all. That is why I started talking to God. It was free, I needed Him or someone to listen to me and I wanted God to be more than mere words in my life. I wanted Him to be real and I thought if anyone could show me love and knew what I needed then that would be the best place to start.

PARENTS, for (YouTube videos)

I wish, wish, wish that there would have been more communication in my family. I do believe that life would have been so much different and so much better if there had been more and healthier communication. I recognize that it isn’t anyone’s fault for one cannot really teach what one does not know. So, there is no blame, only a sincere wish that future generations will communicate better with each other as a result of this effort.

"But what do we call it when a depressed, suicidal teenager depends on the Internet for emotional support and the parent takes their Internet away? … This week alone three teens have told us their parents have taken away their Internet all together, stopped them from going online when they need to, or blocked the chat group which they rely on for emotional support.'

has changed my life for the better.

Although I learned some of these in the outpatient program they

can be learned online and in therapy.

I was miserable in my life without any of these skills and most of

my relationships were superficial and unsatisfying as a result.

I wish…so very much…that I could have learned these skills as a child.

American Association of Suicidology

INTERNATIONAL HOTLINES http://suicidehotlines.com/international.html

List of international, world-wide suicide and crisis hotlines.

I think that people at the point of suicide feel that they have no other choice of action that will end the pain and they neither see nor know of any other choices at that time. I think that the pain is so great that they are unable for one reason or another to choose a different way or reach out to anyone. I have seen both sides of the suicide issue. I have experienced severe emotional pain and suicidal thoughts and I have also had two family members who died by suicide. Your family and friends do love you. Mostly, they don’t know how to tell you or to really share that love on a deeper level or even just talk to you about what you are feeling. You are not alone even if you are feeling alone and isolated. There are many who will help if you reach out. Try not to let your fears or your pain get in the way of saving your life because just a little bit of hope and support can go a very long way. I definitely agree with the statement that the pain exceeds the person’s resources for coping with the pain. I believe that most people do not want to die. They want only for their pain to end. The pain finally wears you out until you are overwhelmed and can no longer handle the pain or see any other way for it to end. Suicide then becomes a relief and a way to end to the emotional pain. Unfortunately and tragically for many souls, life ends because they can see no other way to make the unrelenting emotional pain stop except to die.

This is a very critical point where reaching out for help and learning new resources and life skills becomes very important. New skills can make all the difference in your life by helping to ease emotional pain and suffering. There is a possibility for change and life can get better. Yes, it will take some effort but things can change for the better. There is hope. Please do not give up.

It is in surrendering to God’s love and letting His love wash away the fear that matters and the only place where I find relief. It is in my uttermost brokenness that I finally let go because I can no longer do it all by myself. I am helpless in my pain. I want Him to take me home so badly. I beg but He does not give me what I wish. I chose a different way. I chose to go into the pain and the fear and I chose to accept God’s love as a way of relief. I knew that He loved me and I knew that if I could get past the fear and let Him love me then I would be okay. I was right.

Who knows the answers about what happens afterwards.

The best answer I can give to you is to try to connect with God while you are here on this earth.

There is no need to be in pain when relief is right with Him.

The most soothing place I found was not contemplation of death, but right in God’s loving arms.

Thoughts of death held only a promise of peace but I found that a connection with God in life and love is the real deal.

Let go and let Him love you. Share love with God.

There you will find real peace.

None of the quotes below about suicide are meant to be insensitive or disrespectful. They are put here to show that there are many different ways of looking at the issue of suicide. There are many different kinds of people and we all have our own beliefs and perspectives.

”A large part of the problem, is that young people are being born into the world and growing up without much hope. And so, they become murderers, they become suicide bombers.”

                                                                                                                    -Arthur Hertzberg

“Hope is a necessity for normal life and the major weapon against the suicide impulse.”

                                                                            -Karl A. Menninger

“I think a lot of what is going on with kids who get pushed too far and attempt either murder or suicide is that they are trying to deal with their own non-existence for the people who are supposed to care most for them.”

                                                                                                                                -Richard Russo

“If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”

                                                                            -Mohandas Gandhi

“It is always consoling to think of suicide; in that way one gets through many a bad night.”

                                                                                                    -Friedrich Nietzsche

“Killing yourself is a major commitment, it takes a kind of courage. Most people just lead lives of cowardly desperation. It’s kinda half suicide where you just dull yourself with substances.”

                                                                                -Robert Crumb

“So smoking is the perfect way to commit suicide without actually dying. I smoke because it’s bad, it’s really simple.”

                                                                                                    -  Damien Hurst

“Suicide is man’s way of telling God, “You can’t fire me - I quit.”

                                                                                                -Bill Maher

“Suicide sometimes proceeds from cowardice, but not always; for cowardice sometimes prevents it; since as many live because they are afraid to die, as die because they are afraid to live.”

                                                                                                        -Charles Caleb Colton

“Suicide, moreover, was at the time in vogue in Paris: what more suitable key to the mystery of life for a skeptical society?”

                                                                            -Honore De Balzac

“The counterpart of the suicide is the seeker; but the difference between them is slight.”

                                                                                                -Paul Watzlawick

“The suicide arrives at the conclusion that what he is seeking does not exist; the seeker concludes that he has not yet looked in the right place.”

                                                                                                                        -Paul Watzlawick

Be the seeker in your life....

“The great thing about suicide is that it’s not one of those things you have to do now or you lose your chance. I mean, you can always do it later.”

                                                                                                                                        -Harvey Fierstein

“There was very little suicide among the men of the North, because every man considered it his duty to get killed, not to kill himself; and to kill himself would have seemed cowardly, as implying fear of being killed by others.”

                                                                                                                                    -Lafcadio Hear

“They tell us that suicide is the greatest piece of cowardice...that suicide is wrong; when it is quite obvious that there is nothing in the world to which every man has a more unassailable title than to his own life and person.”

                                                                                                                                            -Arthur Schopenhauer

“Those who want the Government to regulate matters of the mind and spirit are like men who are so afraid of being murdered that they commit suicide to avoid assassination.”

                                                                                                                    -Harry S. Truman

“To run away from trouble is a form of cowardice and, while it is true that the suicide braves death, he does it not for some noble object but to escape some ill.”

                                                                                                                                -Aristotle

“We can consciously end our life almost anytime we choose. This ability is an endowment, like laughing and blushing, given to no other animal...in any given moment, by not exercising the option of suicide, we are choosing to live.”

                        -Peter McWilliams

“Mental Health and Therapy: What Is Group Counseling?” by eHow.

Many people like one-on-one counseling. I did for years; however, I got to the point where I was ready to learn new skills and start letting people around me so that I could learn to communicate more effectively and in a healthier manner. I was nervous at first but I found group therapy to be a comforting and supportive environment with others who were having the same difficulties that I was having.

Feeling like I was not alone helped quite a bit.

Research in the 1970s demonstrated the existence of 'cluster suicides' in which the local TV reporting of teen suicides directly caused numerous copycat suicides of impressionable teenagers. Somewhere in every population there are potentially suicidal kids who will say to themselves, 'Well, I'll show all those people …who have been mean to me'... No matter what someone has done, if you put his picture on TV, you have made him a celebrity, and someone, somewhere, will emulate him.[1]

The kids are hurting but they don’t know how to tell you about their pain.

Please do not ignore the problem and think it will just go away. It won’t.

You child may not know how to tell you that something is wrong or how to talk to you.

Pay attention if you see ANY indication that something is wrong.

Silence, drugs, alcohol, cutting school, harming self or others – anything.

If your child comes to you, please listen and get help and support.

If you are uncomfortable talking to your child, consider seeking outside help.

For the second year in a row, more American soldiers—both enlisted men and women and veterans—committed
suicide than were killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Excluding accidents and illness, 462 soldiers died in
combat, while 468 committed suicide. A difference of six isn't vast by any means, but the symbolism is significant
and troubling. In 2009, there were 381 suicides by military personnel, a number that also exceeded the number of
combat deaths.

Welcome to my blog, which grew out of my experience as a suicide survivor and my experience writing Why Suicide? (see below). On occasion I’ll be posting an essay based on something I’ve read, someone I’ve met, an experience I’ve had, or just a memory of someone in my life who took his or her life. If you have a thought on something I’ve written, I hope you won’t hesitate to join the conversation by leaving a comment.

My God, people do not know you! If they did, you would be loved far more than you are. If people only knew your wisdom, power, goodness, beauty, and all your divine attributes, they would all have become seraphim consumed with the fire of your divine love. This is my aim: to make you known, so that you may be loved and served by all. O my God and my Father, may I know you and make you known; love you and make you loved; serve you and make you served; praise you and make all creatures praise you. Grant, my Father, that all sinners be converted, all the just persevere in grace, and all of us attain to eternal glory.
