Guidelines...

                                                                                                                        One step at a time...

SOME GUIDELINES FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO FOLLOW A BASIC PROGRAM AS WELL AS FOR THOSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO DESIGN THEIR OWN PATH TO GETTING IN TOUCH WITH THEIR SPIRIT

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I AM NOT A QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. I AM A PERSON WHO HAS MANAGED TO RECOVER FROM MY “MENTAL [SPIRITUAL] ILLNESSES” BY USING THESE APPROACHES. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE SEEK THE GUIDANCE OF A QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL .

Since I am not a health care professional I am purposely not recommending any specific kind of path to recovery and getting in touch with your spirit that would work for anyone or everyone. This path is so much of an individual choice and that is why this book and guide have been designed in the way they are presented. Based upon my personal experience though, I would like to make some suggestions for an all-around starter path. I believe that it is best to approach recovery from a mind, body and spirit outlook keep all the areas of life in balance if possible. If you are taking medications, I suggest consulting with your physician or other health care providers before embarking on any kind of program to get clearance. Also, check with a health care provider since some herbs and foods can interact with some medications.

Any path to finding your spirit can be done with some effort and a desire for life to change and get better. I personally was desperate so I self-taught myself much of this information slowly over the years and as a result I eventually I found what worked well for me as an individual. I have tried to tell you about my mistakes as well as my successes and be as honest as possible so that we can all learn. We are doing the best that we can in our lives but learning new things means that things can be messy or that we can make mistakes as we learn. I do not see anything tried as failure but only lessons learned. Otherwise, how would we learn? We grow stronger from our learning and the lessons in life. That is part of real living in my personal opinion instead of just trying to survive. That's no fun. Anyways, do not consider these guidelines to be set in stone in any sense but rather try to see them as different choices and new opportunities to help you feel better. I found that in trying to help myself that I felt better if only for doing something instead of just being in pain. The very act of helping myself, teaching myself and learning helped me to be strong and it taught me about life and others as well. Good luck.

Here are some suggestions and some information about starting and putting together a basic program to improve the health of your body, mind and spirit. This program guide can be adjusted to fit each person’s individual choices but these are the basic suggested guidelines.

If the list seems to be too much or too overwhelming then pick and choose what works for you and start from there. Do the best you can and try to keep a balance of mind, body and spirit.

Basic guidelines for a mind, body and spirit approach to recovery.

  1. Maintain some kind of spiritual practice in whatever way works for you. Try to cultivate a personal relationship with God with nothing and nobody else between you & God, no matter what your faith or belief system. For those that feel alone this might be a place to start. If you do not believe in God then find some time for yourself every day. This could be walking, reading or whatever you enjoy. Just get to know your own spirit and your own heart in whatever way works best for you. Try to sit with your own self for at least fifteen to twenty minutes every day. Pick a comfortable, quiet and special spot. Use it every day if possible. As far as your spirituality practices and beliefs those are your business and your choice. The only thing I would like to say to each and every one of you is that I recommend that each of you develop a personal relationship with God in whatever way works for you but without anyone or anything else in between the two of you. How about no longer putting others between you and God? Why not go directly to the one being that can help you the most? I found that most of my healing came out of my own personal relationship with God and sharing that love and friendship with Him. It also came from letting God be God by letting Him show me who He is instead of listening to everyone else. That is why I recommend going directly to God and/or Christ/Yeshua first in your efforts but in your own way and in your own heart. It helps to have spiritual guidance but try to leave out all the gurus, the masters, avatars, priests, guides, angels, psychics, mystics or anyone or anything else between you and God. Try to develop a personal relationship with God and/or Christ in your own way depending upon your beliefs. I was brought up with Catholicism so I rely on the Bible to make points sometimes but it is only to make a point and not to attempt to force my beliefs upon anyone. That is the source with which I am most familiar. Try to get in touch with God and/or Christ by going within yourself and your own heart and develop the relationship from that point. Do not allow any outside influences, other people or their beliefs to get in the way. Keep the connection inside of you and proceed from the heart. Let God love you and love God. Try to keep it just that simple and everything will flow from there.
  2. Love. Get lots of it in your life. I don’t think this needs any explanation. Love is the most healing feeling and energy out there that I have ever felt. If you have nobody else in your life or if you feel alone, God is there for you. Always. All you have to do is ask. Talk to God directly and then learn how to listen to Him. If you do any one thing, let love into your life. Love yourself. Love someone and let them love you. Love God and let God love you. As you get stronger through all of this then you will be able to let more love into your life. You will be able to let more people back into your life and you will be able to feel love again. You will be able to love yourself and feel better about yourself without needing anyone else’s approval to feel good. Your self-confidence and self-esteem will improve and the rest of your life will get better as a result. You will be more comfortable in your own skin and with other people as a result of your efforts. It is possible to feel loved by God and this helped me a great deal because it was the only place I had to go in some ways and my relationship with God has helped me to let others back into my life as well. I’m glad that I expanded my spirituality in so many ways because I found more love than I ever thought possible. Don’t give up. It is possible to have love in your life again.
  3. ALWAYS REMEMBER ONE THING: no matter how hard the recovery was at times, it was NEVER as difficult or as painful as being in that place of excruciating emotional pain. NEVER. This is one of the thoughts that kept me going when things got tough. The emotional pain is the hardest thing to deal with because sometimes it just never seems to end and it is very hard to make it go away. It is hard to understand how people can hurt so badly emotionally but it can and does happen and it is brutal at times. Learning new skills and getting emotional support helped to ease the emotional pain. Going through the emotional releases and facing my pain were difficult at times but never as difficult as being in the endless emotional pain. At least I was attempting to manage the pain and get it out and those things helped me to feel better. Just the act of moving through the pain instead of being endlessly stuck in it helped me to feel that I was making some progress. Approaching my recovery from all angles helped me to be healthier all the way around.
